The Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling is a modular course and is delivered by experienced counsellor trainers. It is wholly intended to comply with current NCPS guidelines on moral and ethical practice and gives the 300 Guided Learning Hours required by NCPS for Accreditation. (Senior Accreditation with the NCPS can be applied for after 450 hours of classroom learning and 450 hours of supervised counselling in an appropriate setting.)
Therefore, the Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling is suitable for any individual whose qualification goal is to achieve professional status in counselling.
The Diploma covers the main theoretical approaches to counselling in the first 75-hour module, followed by a 100-hour module on Cognitive Behavioural Counselling (CBC), and finally a 75-hour module on Transactional Analysis (TA), which includes Inner Child work. The CBC module is the specialist theory for the supervised placement work, which commences in the latter half of this module.
For the first module, you will complete a weekly reflective journal for 20 sessions; submit a 2000-2500 word essay; and carry out a 20-minute assessed role play.
On the CBC Unit, there will be a longer monthly journal, 9 in all; a 3000-3500 word essay; and a 30-minute assessed role play.
On the TA Unit there will be a weekly journal; a 3000-3500 essay in the form of a reflection on supervised practice; a 30-minute assessed role play; a logbook of supervised hours; 4 supervisor’s reports at 4 points in the placement; and a letter from your counsellor confirming 10 hours of counselling as a client.
We are aware that the assessment requirements may sound daunting at the beginning of the course but you will grow in knowledge and insight as the course proceeds and will be supported throughout by our knowledgeable and supportive tutors. It is vital to us that you enjoy your learning in a relaxed and happy atmosphere. To this end, we give you close and personal attention throughout the course. This is our priority at all times.
Students generally comment on their experience at the end of the course as insightful, healing and of real value, with deep connections forged. All our tutors are very experienced counsellors themselves and their approach to teaching is nurturing and empathic.
